I was blessed last week to accompany our youth group as they went to beach camp.
It was a very spiritual and emotional week for me. This is one of the photos I took, not of the youth, but of footprints. I think it sums up the feeling of the week the best. There are more photos that I took, but I could only pick one for this post. While, this is NOT the most photogenic, dramatic, or even most well composed photo, It's worth sharing.
Hope everyone has a great 4th of july weekend! If you want to see more photos from beach camp, click on this one and it will take you to the fickr photo stream where you can see more.

not your typical engagement photo
But, I like this one.
It was one of the last photos i captured with this couple, and after spending the morning with them, I thought that this pose fit their personality. It's a little "vougue-ish" but it was fun. I loved shooting this couple, as they had great personalities, but they also were both very photogenic.
as always, if you click on the image then you can see others from the same set.
naked baby
I love shooting this little girl. It's the second time i've gotten to photograph her, and she is so much fun, and so photogenic. She was at 6 months old for this shoot, and that is about the last age that i like to do "naked" baby photos, they just aren't real cute after that. We did a lot of stunning photos, but I like this one because it is a dramatic photo.
She actually hated taking this photo and was crying the whole time, but as soon as we turned her around and she could see us again, she was happy. I like the shot though, and it wi be cherished for a long time.
you get out of a shoot, what you put into it.
This is an image from a newborn shoot I did. It is by far, not the most stunning image (photography wise) in the set, but it is the most heart touching. This is the image of this sweet baby boy with his dad's guitar. The lyrics, are the lyrics that his dad wrote for him. His lullaby.
This is the image that will be cherished, as you get a real view of just how small this sweet baby is, and you get these lyrics that came straight from dad's heart.
It's emotional.
Chloe
sometimes (often) you get a 2 year old that doesn't want to sit still and be photographed. This image is from one of those sessions. It is my favorite image of her from the session.
She is such a cute child. She wanted to run around, and play, and have fun. She was very curious and a joy to be with. I managed to catch her being still for a split second, and this shot is the result. If you click on the image, it will take you to flickr where you can see the rest. (the one shown here, does not show all of the image)
I love getting to do what I do.

Here's the story of a lovely lady.....
This is a precious family that I was fortunate to get to photograph! They had such great personalities. I took lots of pictures, including group pictures, but I like this composite that I created for them. To me, it's just "fun" so i thought i would share it with you. They really were a great bunch to work with.
I am thankful to God for blessing me with such a talent so I can meet such wonderful people, and capture great moments for them.

Sisters...
This is not the most outstanding image from the series, but it is the one that captures the relationship between sisters the best. These sisters are 1 and 3 years old. In this photo the 3 year old is giving the 1 year old a wet willie. We've all had them. (or given them) She did this multiple times, and it was really cute. Though the 1 year old didn't think so.
Capturing Emotion in my images is very important to me. Anyone can "take a picture" but to photograph something that will be cherished, you must have some of the person in the picture. You have to adequately capture the relationships between people, the emotions that are expressed. I want you to feel a connection with the subjects of my photographs when you see my images. I think that is captured well in this photograph.

first diva shoot.
This is a picture from the first round of Diaper Diva shoots! This little girl was so much fun. She is at the age where seperation anxiety is an issue, and didn't really want to let go of mom. I got a lot of really cute pictures of her crying. I love pictures of crying babies. This picture however, i thought was really cute. Something about the personality in the way she is sitting struck me.
I like, and strive to, capture a little personality in each of my sessions. The crying ones were cute, but this one I chose to share with you!!!

wedding and vow renewal
This is not my favorite picture from the ceremony, but it's one of them. Click on it to see a few of the others.
I was blessed to have gotten to photograph a wedding and a vow renewal last weekend. It was a wonderful experience, even though it was HOT outside!!! I took lots of pictures, and had fun. My 11 year old daughter was my assistant for the day. She carried my flash stand and pointed it for me, it allowed me to get some very interesting shots like this one. she is actually standing in a chair, holding the flash directly over the cake, pointed down at it to light it from above. I love the shadows that it creates, and the result was very pleasing to me.

momma's love!
I love this picture. It shows how genuine a mother's love is!!
It is one picture from a family session I did. There was also dad and an older sister. They were so much fun to shoot! I hope this picture makes you smile just a little like it did me.

mothers day present
This session was purchased by the subjects sister in law as a mother's day present. I love when people purchase photographs for presents. You are giving a gift that will last a lifetime and be enjoyed by many.
This subject whether she knows it or not, was very photogenic. I took my time on the editing and played with textures and some other various additions to her images.
I really like this image, I think it is simple, yet has a little bit of an "edge" to it with the overlay on the left side.
I am truly blessed to get to do what I do and I enjoy it every day!

new light textures
Well, I've begun to play with textures a little. I added a "light texture" to this photo. I also have some other textures, but haven't gotten to play with them....yet.
This photo was one taken during a Palestine Photography Club workshop. Where we worked with various models and shared tips for shooting, posing, and working with different age groups.
I like the light overlay in this picture, but we'll see how the other textures work out.

Pro Bono...

I've been doing a lot of free shoots lately, and doing contests to give away free shoots. This picture is from one of those shoots.
I was supposed to have a Westwood High School student shadowing me on tuesday, so I set up a photoshoot, free of charge so she would have something to shadow. This baby was one of the lucky recipients. The student never showed up, but we had a great time, and got lots of great shots! I'm glad we did this one.
Why do pro bono work you might ask? Well, God didn't give me this talent so that I could become rich, he gave it to me so that I could give back to others. That is what I am doing. Whether it is through free photo shoots or by giving profits to charity, it is what brings me joy and helps me to give back. Giving back is a very important part of why i do what I do. That is why I strive to keep my prices low.
I announced just today that 10% of the profits from diaper divas and diva darlings will go to buckner international to help children who need families.
I love what I do, and I love this talent that God has blessed me with.

This picture is of the last 2 girls i did a senior shoot with. The are twins, I was reluctant to take them on because I wasn't sure that I could get their pictures back to them in time, but I did take them on. And, I'm glad I did because they photograph beautifully, It left me with a lot of really good shots. They are both very photogenic.
I'm glad all the end of school stuff is over, looking forward to a great summer with lots of possibilities of great photographs! I feel like I can breathe a little now.
Life is so good!

This is a photo from a recent shoot i was blessed to do. I got to photograph this sweet little baby with his adoptive parents and birth mom before he left the hospital.
It was a bit of a challenge, photographing in the hospital, without my bean bag, my lights, and just using what was available, but i am very happy with the results.
Such a sweet baby boy, and God's love will always surround and follow him.

He is absolutely a ham. He is the cutest, most mild mannered kid i know. It was a pleasure to have him around. He was very easy to photograph. I put a hat on his head, and he just played with it and smiled at me. He was lots of fun!
I truly love this kiddo!

I always tell people, to bring with them items of sentimental value. I was super excited when this family brought with them Grandpas, newest guitar. The colors and details on the guitar were wonderful, you could photograph just it and have a work of art, but add in a baby, and you have a priceless picture that families will enjoy for a long time!
I love how this picture turned out, I actually edited it 4 different ways, i am sharing with you the one that I added song lyrics too.
This picture also has my new watermark on it.

I love doing newborns, and this one was a lot of fun!

This is a shot from a senior shoot I did. I like the "story" that this picture tells, that's why I'm choosing to share this one with you.
This young man was on his HS football team. He wasn't super excited about taking pictures, as most boys aren't, but he did, and then he was glad he did, he actually had some fun. These "artsy" pictures where he didn't have to look at me, and could just be himself, were some of the ones he liked to take. We got lots of good pictures with him looking at me too.
This one is kind of "rudy" esque to me.

This little girl, was one of three I did in a family shoot. It was her, her mom, and her sister. The reason I chose to share this particular image with you, is this is one of those children that mom told me, didn't like to take pictures, and it was hard to get good pictures of her.
I let her play, and played with her, and she soon forgot i had a camera in my hand, and i was able to capture some really good images of her. I'm drawn to the "innocence" in this picture. I just love it. aren't her eyes mesmerizing?

I'm drawn to this image because of the contrast of colors. I like how the purple contrasts so well with the neutral tones she is wearing.

and, another black and white photo
custom watermark-25 copy

There isn't a whole lot to say about this photo, other than it was really fun to take. I had a very short depth of field f1.8 on the camera, now that's not usually reccomended for portraits, but I wanted the effect that it creates. I focused on the eyes, and so the rest of the picture is slightly out of focus. I then convereted it to black and white which made her eyes "pop".
I love this picture, i think it is a great picture and really tells the story of this particular subject.

This is one of those kids that doesn't like to look at me, so mom's don't worry, even if they don't look at me or smile, there will still be cute pictures.
I think she kind of looks like a young Marilyn Monroe, my husband thinks she looks like drew barrymore. Like the E.T. Drew. either way, she was a cute kid and we got lots of cute pictures of her.
oh...look at the clouds.

She also has a custom watermark, it is her signature, and then I added some text to it. That is something that is only available to seniors.

This little 3 month old girl, was an absolute pleasure to photograph. She was wide eyed, in a gorgeous mood, and who wouldn't love those eyes? Aren't they mesemerizing? Mom picked this wonderful black and white outfit, that photographed wonderfully.
Working with babies is sometimes a challenge because they have plans of their own. but, even still, if you are patient, there is always a good shot. This little girl made my job easy. She is extremely photogenic, and was also very happy.
aww...sisters

This image is just too cute not to share it. I'm afraid it doesn't need much of a story. These are 2 sisters, we asked the older sister to give a "kiss" to the baby sister, she did just as we had asked, and then she decided she wanted to take the hairbow off of her little sister.
This is of course, not the BEST image that I took that day, but to me it is priceless. It kind of lets you know the life that this little baby has ahead of her. Reminds me of my sister and myself. I think on some level we can all appreciate this.

I always get excited when i have a newborn shoot, then there's that brief moment of "what am I going to do to make this shoot differnt?" somehow, i seem to have more ideas for little girls, because well, you can "decorate them" more than boys. lol.
Well, I had a couple of ideas I wanted to try with this kiddo, and I was super excited for his shoot.
However, he didn't want to do the things I did, and so I had to come up with another plan. I like to do something "different" for each newborn shoot. I want to create something for the parents that they will be proud to hang on their wall. I want them to have a portrait that is also artwork, something that they will treasure for years to come.
I began to think, I wouldn't achieve that with this little one, and then, I got this idea. I think it turned out really well, and I hope that mom is as pleased with it as I am.
Babies are so much fun!!

snow pictures
and, one he didn't see coming....
Next year, I will have a waiting list for snow. then, if and when it snows, I will begin calling the people on the list to come have their pictures done, and those that are available when I call will get pictures. I may even purchase a neat looking piece of furniture to use in the pictures. Snow pictures really make great family pictures, and the opportunity to capture them doesn't come around often.
